In 1823 Edward Baines' History, Directory & Gazetteer of the County of York contained the following entry for the village of Sexhow in the parish of Rudby:

 

SEXHOW, a small hamlet, in the parish of Rudby, wap. and liberty of Langargh; 4 miles SW of Stokesley.  Pop. 38
